After a great night’s sleep – it’s so’ooooooooooooo quiet up in the mountains we wake at 6:30 but have a lay in reading and drinking tea until 9:30 !!!! As it’s our last day before we travel home :)we look at our map and find one last hike . We find a 4 hour one leaving from just up the road from our van up through the forest to ‘La Source de la Fournette’ which sounds interesting, so we pack a picnic and set off at 10:30.
The first section is very steep and slow going but very pretty with pines and mountain flowers :)We met the road to the barrages after awhile and then a section of track which is much easier !!! We find the source after 2 hours :) and it’s funny really as someone’s gone to alot of effort with a hose, rocks and wooden shoots to make a feature but sadly it looks abit Disney and false :( still it’s a great place for our picnic :)We nearly decide to go to ‘le Monolithe’ (what ever that is ??? ) but it’s another hour and takes us even farther from our van so decide against it and head back the way we came for a bit. We came across a sign for la Baum which was only 15 mins so went and had a look and walked up a track along a lovelly stream to a house in the middle of nowhere and turned and came back the other side. Then nearly back to the road again we saw a wooden sign to Aussios via the river St-Piere and took a chance and are glad we did as it was by far the best section down a steep gorge following the mountain stream all the way with bridges criss crossing the water and we think this is a serious mountain bike track !!! rather them than me !!!!!! We then could see our van above us :) but by the time we found our way up we were lower and had to scramble up a steep bank and back to the van knackered but happy :) what a great weeks it’s been with 4 days of skiing and loads of fantastic walks and we have parked for free every night with a mega mega view at most !!!! Sadly we have got to drive to Villefranche and home tomorrow :(
